The Wageningen Debate
At the opening of the academic year 2012-2013 the chairman of the executive board Aalt Dijkhuizen made a statement about the future of agriculture. He stated that there is a need for intensification of agriculture to increase yields and that further intensification is the only way to feed another 2 billion people in the near future. Wageningen UR is one of the world’s leading research and education centres in the field of food production, environment and health. Wageningen scientists, students and alumni will play an important role in shaping the future for global food production and the possible future directions for agricultural development.
Within the university though multiple approaches to agriculture and food production exist which have been underexposed in Dijkhuizen’s discourse and also within the current debate.
In order to follow up and scientifically deepen this discussion, a public debate therefore will be organized by the WUR together with the Independent Critical Students Group. The debate will take place on December 11th,  from 17-19.00.
